Come bundled up as historic downtown Powell comes alive with favorite holiday activities! Again this year, over a dozen FREE children’s educational booths, activities and gift stations are being offered by numerous community partners inside the City building, including a free photo booth! Of course, Holidays in Powell would not be complete without a visit from Saint Nick! Santa, Mrs. Claus and his elves will arrive by a Liberty Township Fire Department truck to greet and meet with children beginning at 12:30pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children in the East Community Room until 5:30pm, when the festivities conclude outside with the annual tree lighting ceremony of the official “Village Green Tree”. Santa and Powell officials will light up the night with hundreds of twinkling lights! “Our downtown organization helps bring the community together. This charming traditional event is yet another way we can help do that,” Executive Director Anna Steck explains. “We hope that Holidays In Powell will be just a portion of an all day outing for local family members of all ages. They can start their day visiting Santa or going on a free Columbus ZOO and Aquarium Trolley ride together, then shop or have a delicious meal… all in downtown Powell!” New this year, also from noon to 5:30pm, will be an Open House at The 1889 Martin-Perry House, located on E. Olentangy at Grace Drive. Members of the Powell Liberty Historical Society and the Powell Area Garden Club, all of whom have decorated the house, will share historic traditions, offer tours of the House and provide refreshments. They invite you to enjoy a step-back-in-time during your visit to downtown Powell. Throughout the historic district, Powell’s many quaint shops will be opened for shoppers who are looking for those one-of-a-kind gifts. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, presents like fine jewelry, antiques, ornamental sculptures, children’s gifts or elegant fashions await you. Many of the shops will also be adding their own special touches to complete the holiday shopping experience. And don’t be surprised if you get a glimpse of Frosty The Snowman, The Gingerbread Man, a Snow Princess, merry Elves and other favorite characters while downtown! Listen, too, for the sounds of local carolers. Teen volunteers from Historic Downtown Powell, Inc., Olentangy Liberty High School and Olentangy Liberty Middle School will be strolling throughout the downtown and the Village Green, filling the air with carols and spreading holiday cheer.
